Places to Visit In Konya - Travel Guide

Places to see in Konya are worth to discover. From Grand bazaars to mosques you should spend at least a day to explore Konya.

It is a major city in South western edge of Anatolian Plateau. Konya has been one of the most important ancient cities in the entire world. In terms of economy, Konya is most developed cities in Turkey. Also it is known with it’s natural and historic richness. Konya is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Çatalhöyük, which is the oldest settlements in human history, is located in Konya. If you would like to have a good time, you should visit the city.

Zafer (Victory) Square

Zafer (Victory) Square is re orgaized by the Tahir Akyürek who is the Metropolitan Mayor of the city. In square there is a fountain and a monument.

Mevlana Museum

Mevlana Museum is built for Mevlana who lived in 13 th century. He was a religious leader, religious leader and a poet. He is also the founder of Sufism. You enter the musem through beautiful rose gardens. İnside, you can see the mausoleum. Across the mausoleum, there is a lodge kitchen. If you would like to learn more about dervish life, then it is a must see place for you.

Tile Museum (Karatay Medresisi)

Tile Museum (Karatay Medresisi) was built in 1251 by Celaddin Karatay. It was built as a old madrasa. Now it is used as a museum. You can see Seljuk enamel tile works in the museum. The buildig itself is also covered with famous Seljuk tiling. You can also see ceramics. The Celaddin Karatay tomb is in the left hand room of the building.

Museum of Wooden and Stone Carving (Ince Minare Medresesi)

Museum of Wooden and Stone Carving (Ince Minare Medrese) was built in 1260 for Sahip Ata who is the Seljuk vizier. The building today is used as a museum. You can see a big collection of woodens and sculptures made from stones in the Seljuk era.

Aladdin Tepe

Aladdin Tepe is built on right in the city center. You can see Alaeddin Camii there which was built in 13th century. It is a good example of Arabic design. There is a ceiling supported by a lot of antique columns. You also cn see the excavation site. Which belongs to Alaeddin Kaykobad’s palace.

Archaeological Museum

Archaeological Museum  is a good place to be if you are looking for an excellent collection. You can see display of the findings from world famous Çatalhöyük. It is located just on the road of Ethnography Museum which also is a must see for tourists. You can find carpets, Turkish crafts, household goods, costumes and many more. In Turkey, most of the museums are modernized but keep in mind that this one is not. Do not be surprised when you see the dusty place. Even though it is dusty and has poor lighting, it is still seen as one of the most importnt museums in Konya thanks to its worthy collection.
