Ankara is larger than most of the cities in the USA. It is one od the top places to visit in Turkey. The city has a lot of good places to offer.

The Mausoleum of Ataturk, Anıtkabir

The Mausoleum of Ataturk is one of the most visited places in Ankara. It is stated that on th 69th anniversary of Ataturk’s death, over 550 thousand people visited the mausoleum. Ataturk is known as Father of modern Turkey. He is the first president of Turkey. He designed the city as a capital city in the first place.

Ankara Citadel

Ankara Citadel is the best place to be if you would like to see panoramic view. You can visit the place in Ulus district. You need to be careful while you are discovering the site though. Because there are no handrails.

The Museum of Anatolian Civilization

The Museum of Anatolian Civilization has artifacts from Neolithic and Paleolithic ages. Also you can see items from:

  • Hittite,
  • Hatti,
  • Urartu,
  • Roman,
  • Phyrygian civilizations.

The museum is located on the South side of the famous Ankara Castle. If you are into history, you should see this museum!

Experience Street Food

Street food is very famous in Ankara. If you are in a hurry, you can have a durum and eat it on the go. The Turkish cuisie is all about meat but there are also vegetarian friendly options. Kebab, doner, İskender, dolma are one of the most famous foods.

Atakule Tower

Atakule Tower has wonderful view of Ankara. You can get into the highest view point in the city. From Atakule, you can see Ankara in bird’s view. From Atakule perspective, you can almost see all of the tourist attraction at one glance!

Kocatepe Mosque

Kocatepe Mosque is a must to see if you visit Ankara. It is known as the most impressive worship building in Ankara and one of the symbols of the city. It is also the largest mosqoue in Ankara. It was built betwee 1967 and 1987. It has 88 m minaret height. Kocatepe Mosque was inspired from the Sultanahmet Mosque in Istanbuli Turkey. The mosque was built by Sadaf Kar Muhamed Aga. It is located on the Kizilay Square. You can visit the mosque for free. Aroud the mosque you can find delicious street food, bistros, cafes and hotels. If you plan to visit the mosque with your car, there is a parking lot too.

Lake Eymir

Lake Eymir is one of the natural beautiul spots in Ankara. It is located 25 kms away from the city. You can go there to stay away from the noise of the city ad relax. There is also a park 10 kms long. You can walk, jog or cycle by your preference. Also you can have a picnic with your loved ones. Ankara Lake Eymir’s park is home for 150 species of birds.
